I think of my work as an investigation into the materiality of painting. I question its conventions regarding styles and methods; its physicality (thingness) in terms of sizes, format and support structures; its historicity and the context/institutions of display (exhibition) spaces; and the activity of painting itself. I ask: what are the undertakings and the accounts of seeing? How does the body intertwine with the retina? How does the mind process all the sensual datas? What are the degrees of separation between our conventional understand of reality, to the notion of ultimate reality, and the role of art? I am preoccupy with the metaphysics and the material manifestation of painting, in its meaning and its means.
