Wall Cut Outs, 1998 –

The idea originated from the basic question: what is painting? Is it a thing on a wall? What about the wall itself? What about what is behind the wall? I wanted it to be playful because I think it is funny to cut holes in walls that is taken for granted. Instead of a hole in a wall, I would cut amusing shapes: my son as an infant, levitating high on a wall; a delicate bird just there. Choice words too, as in “twig” responding to a place it was made; not new, I’ve use words in the Early February series.
