The Mind Should not be Moved by Things, 2017
Tired of stencils, can-spray paints and respirator, I was thinking about the process of painting again: what is painting fundamentally? Paint marks on surface. In this series, I start with a painted ground, I write in Chinese the word fate, and with my left hand (I am right handed) I wiped the paint with a rag removing the excess paint. The act of removal implies the want to get rid of, to forget. Somewhere I read the difference between European and Chinese philosophy is, the European remembers (Plato’s theory of knowledge) while the Chinese denies the certainty of knowing (Chuang-Tze).
